First of all, when encountering problems, please read through our FAQ. Many situations are already known, and the solution is available there.
There are test programs to verify the correct operation of the ports and the drivers. Some test utilities operate in DOS, others need a well configured operating systems like Windows, OS/2 or Linux. It is possible to start the DOS programs in Windows. But the operating system can have effects on the results. So if in doubt please verify the results in plain DOS.

DOS programs

  • VSSHOW.COM
    This program scans the system and detects all PCI cards from VScom. The assigned resources are listed, i.e. the addresses and the IRQ.
    You need this information if you want to perform further tests with other DOS programs.
  • VSPCIDOS.EXE
    This program also scans for PCI cards from VScom. Additionally it collects serial and parallel ports. As much as possible are installed in DOS, which is the main task of this tool. More information is found in the FAQ.
  • VSEMUIO.EXE
    This is a real DOS driver. It virtualises the ports on the PCI cards, and simulates them with address and IRQ the user can choose. It enables old DOS programs to operate with actual hardware, without changing the program.
  • CHKNCOM.EXE
    This is a test tool for serial ports. In fact it is used in the production of VScom cards for quality assurance. Since it is not related to PCI cards it can check all serial ports. It is designed to test multiport serial boards. It usable with ISA boards of the PRO series, as well as PCI boards. The informations from VSSHOW are necessary for this option.
  • CHK4COM.EXE
    Here is a collection of old tools for testing ports. For further information please read the documentation files.
  • SHOWPCI.EXE
    Designed for detection of PCI components in a computer. Should be used if required by the support in special situations.
  • DOSTEST.exe
    A performance test program. It is possible to use several ports simultaneously. Please see the documentation.

Windows programs

  • comtest.exe
    This is a performance test program, in a graphical version. Please read the attached documentation. You may run it directly from CD-ROM.

Linux programs

  • vslxtest
    With its different modules, this program verifies the configuration and performance of serial devices in Linux. Please read the documentation readme.txt.
