Legacy ISA
ATTENTION:
Please read carfully:
ISA boards installed in a PCI mainboard
normally need an additional Setting in the mainboards setup. This is
necessary to be able to use the configured IRQ's.
When starting your Computer, please enter the setup of the mainboard, in
most cases you need the <Del> Key. There you will find a topic
called PCI Configuration or similar. If you invoke this, you
normally find the setting configured as Automatic. Now you must change
this to manual. Then a long list of Ressources will appear, in this also
all IRQ's.
The setting of the IRQ's normally is configured as PCI/PnP ISA,
please change this setting to Legacy ISA for the IRQ configured
on the ISA board.
If you fail to do this, there are two possibilities for conflicts:
- the IRQ might be assigned to a PCI device and becomes
inavailable for the ISA board.
- in most cases the mainboard will de-activate the IRQ-line on the
ISA Bus. Then you don't have a hardware conflict, but the
configuration won't funtion nevertheless.
It is absolute nonsens for a mainboard (i.e. the BIOS) to act in the
second way. Unfortunately this is the case in most systems. This danger does
not exist with ISA boards conforming
to Microsofts ISA-PnP specifications. For example this is the
VScom 100 PRO.
